Treatment options for plane warts

Tips

• Whatever the used treatment , scarring procedures should to be avoided.

Medical treatment

• Topical retinoids : tretinoin, tazarotene
• Imiquimod 5% cream applied every day or every other day
• 5-fluorouracil cream applied once or twice a day for 3 to 5 weeks.
• 5% or 10% KOH solution once nightly.
• Oral isotretinoin 0.5 mg/kg/day prescribed for 2 months.
• Intralesional immunotherapy
  • Candida antigen.
  • MMR
  • PPD.

Physical treatment

• Electrocautery: very light touch for rapid results.
• Cryotherapy: Freezing of individual lesions with liquid nitrogen.
• NB‐UVB: with a dose of 0.3 J/cm² three times weekly (case report).
